Padding in doublets protects wearer from plate armors sharp edges. It was an advancement in military armor and dresses. earlier doublet was called a pourpoint or gipon. Doublets are worn over loose and soft linen shirts. Later doublets were enhanced with different designs and amended as per warrior demands.
