Description
Medieval Sugarloaf Great Helmet – 13th to 14th Century Knight Helmet:
The Sugarloaf Great Helm was the best way for knights to protect themselves in the late 1300s and early 1400s. This design is a step up from the flat-topped Crusader Great Helm. It has a unique conical top that looks like a “sugar loaf.” It is designed to better deflect blows and arrows that come from below than earlier versions. This helm is the best way to look like a heavy cavalryman, a Templar knight or a high-ranking man-at-arms during the classic age of chivalry.
We make this helmet at Armor Arena with a focus on how well it works and how it looks like it did in the past. The helm covers the whole head and neck, giving you better protection while keeping the scary, faceless look that was popular on the medieval battlefield. This helmet is the perfect mix of realness and strength for SCA heavy combat, LARP events, or even making a movie.
We know that some activities need more protection than others. So, we have this helmet in a lot of different steel gauges. Our 14-gauge mild steel option is the best choice for heavy contact re-enactment because it can take the most damage. The 16, 18, and 20-gauge options are lighter and still look good for LARP, costume or light combat use. We also have an 18-gauge stainless steel version that doesn’t rust or corrode for people who want something that doesn’t need a lot of care.
Every helmet comes ready to wear, with a soft foam lining inside and a strong leather chin strap that is held in place by a steel buckle. You can also change the look to fit your character. For a knight in shining armor look, choose our Mirror Polish. For a battle-hardened, gritty look, choose the Dull Finish.
