Description

Spangenhelm – Early Medieval Helmet

(Historically called a “Spangenhelm,” this segmented helmet type appeared across Europe and the Near East from the late 5th to early 10th centuries. It was worn by warriors of Germanic tribes, Byzantines and Vikings)

The Spangenhelm – Version II represents one of the most enduring and recognizable helmets of the early Middle Ages. Developed during the Migration Period and widely used through the Viking Age, its segmented construction (“spangen” meaning strips or braces in German) offered strength, ease of repair and protection suited to warriors from Europe to the Near East.

Armor Arena recreates this iconic form using strong materials and careful workmanship for both authenticity and durability. Each helmet is handcrafted in mild steel, available in 14 g, 16 g, 18 g and 20 gauge or in 18 g stainless steel for corrosion‑resistant brilliance. Two kind of finishes are offered: Dull Finish for an authentically aged appearance and Mirror Finish for a bright, display‑ready shine.

Inside, the helmet includes soft foam padding with a leather chin strap and steel buckle for secure and comfortable wear. It’s ideal for LARP, SCA combat, Viking and Byzantine reenactment, film projects, theatre productions and museum display.

Each Armor Arena helmet combines high‑quality craftsmanship, historical precision and our lowest‑price guarantee, providing exceptional value without compromising authenticity.
