This distinctive Italian target is based on a 16th century original. Circa 1540-60 Italian, Wallace Collection, London (A 318). These kind of Fist Shields were commonly used in civilian fencing and its mentioned in Achille Marozzo’s fencing book. This Fist Buckler is also called Square Target, Targa Buckler, Achille Targa and quadrangular. The top of buckler is wider than the its bottom and the surface rolling vertically to make middle convex. In the middle there is a long hook surrounded by an oval and outside this a rectangular raised the bar for sword catching. The curved shape creates a surface which captures and directs your opponent’s attack. Achille Targa can be used with both hands.
