Description
Leather Cuirass with Tassets – Medieval Armor (1550)
Leather Cuirass with Tassets amazingly crafted product has highest demand in market. Leather breastplate with backplate along with tassets give 360 cover to wearer. In 1550, cuirass breastplates had a central ridge called the tapul which had a projecting point near its center. Over time, the tapul moved lower on the breastplate and the plate’s profile came to resemble a pea pod. This type of cuirass was known as the peascod cuirass. Leather armor was effective against scrapes and blows but lost some of its usefulness with the development of more advanced weapons. However, leather armor worn under metal plates provided extra protection. Cuirasses were originally made of thick leather and were worn by Roman officers. Cuirasses were made of bronze in Homeric and Hellenistic times. Later, cuirasses were made of steel and were the forerunner to body armor that deflects bullets. During the English Civil War (1642–1651), only the wealthiest and physically strongest men could afford cuirasses.
