The original Spangenhelm found its way into the use of Germanic tribes, Vikings, and Byzantine soldiers during the 6th to the 10th centuries. The segemented construction made it easy to produce with the technology of the day, employing metal bands to wire together plates, and also allowed many regional and cultural modifications.
