Description
Birka Style Viking Helmet (9th-10th Century Viking Era):
The Birka-Style Viking Helmet – 9th–10th Century (Version II) is a historically accurate copy based on archaeological finds from the Viking Age trading center of Birka, Sweden, as well as helmet designs from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe that are known to have existed at the time.
There are no complete helmets from Birka, but excavations have found iron helmet fragments, brow plates, mail armor and weapon fittings. This suggests that high-status warriors wore helmets. This design is based on the spangenhelm tradition, which was a common way for Vikings to build things. They would rivet together several iron plates to make a strong but useful helmet.
This helmet has a rounded dome with bands on it for extra strength and a simple nasal guard. It protects the face while still allowing for visibility and airflow, which were important to Viking warriors who fought and went on long trips. The shape is similar to helmets used in Scandinavia, the Baltic region and early Rus territories in the 9th and 10th centuries.
Armor Arena sells this helmet in 14, 16, 18 and 20 gauge mild steel as well as 18 gauge stainless steel for people who want a helmet that won’t rust and is easy to clean. There are two types of surface finishes: a dull finish that looks like a real battlefield and a mirror polish finish that is good for display, collectors and movies.
The helmet has foam padding on the inside and a leather chin strap with a steel buckle for comfort and safety in modern times. This helmet is made to be used in a variety of ways, including LARP, SCA combat, historical reenactment, medieval markets, cosplay, theater and film.
This helmet, like all Armor Arena products, is made with professional craftsmanship, strong materials and a focus on historical accuracy. This means you get the best quality at the lowest price.
