Description
Hounskull Visor Bascinet Helmet – Late 14th Century Style:
The Hounskull Visor Bascinet is one of the most famous helmets from the late 14th century. Knights, men-at-arms and professional infantry used it all over Europe. The long, pointed visor, which looked like a dog’s snout, was meant to protect the wearer from blows, arrows and spear thrusts on the battlefield while also making it easier to breathe and see than earlier fully enclosed helmets. During the Hundred Years’ War, this style became popular and stayed that way for armoured cavalry and elite soldiers.
Armor Arena has made a very accurate copy of this historic helmet for LARP, SCA combat, medieval re-enactment, cosplay, film production and theatre. Each piece is made with care to make sure it lasts, is comfortable and looks like it did in the past, all while keeping the price low.
You can get this bascinet in 14, 16, 18 or 20-gauge mild steel, or you can pay more for 18-gauge stainless steel, which is better at resisting rust. We have two surface finishes: Dull Finish for a real battlefield look and Mirror Finish for a polished display look.
The foam padding inside the helmet makes it comfortable to wear for a long time and the leather chin strap with a steel buckle keeps it in place. The articulated hounskull visor lifts up easily, making it easy to talk and breathe during events.
Armor Arena is known for making high-quality medieval helmets at the lowest price possible. This Hounskull Bascinet is a great choice for both beginners and professional reenactors.
