The Viking Gjermundbu Helmet – 10th Century (Version II) is a very accurate copy of the only Viking Age helmet that has been found. This helmet was found in a warrior's grave in Gjermundbu, Norway and it is thought to be from around 950 AD. It shows what Viking helmets really looked like: they were useful, strong and made for real fighting.
The original helmet was made using the spangenhelm method, which involves putting together several plates to make a rounded dome. It has a reinforced brow band and a unique face guard that looks like glasses. This protects the eyes and nose while still letting in air and light. This design is more like what Norse warriors would have wanted than what was popular in later medieval times.
Armor Arena's Version II keeps the right historical proportions while adding modern customization options. Customers who want a helmet that won't rust and is easy to care for can get it in 14, 16, 18 or 20 gauge mild steel or 18 gauge stainless steel. There are two types of finishes available: a dull (satin) finish that looks like it came from the battlefield and a mirror polish finish that is good for display, ceremonies and movies.
The helmet has foam padding on the inside and a leather chin strap with a steel buckle to make it more comfortable and safe to wear. This helmet is made to be useful for a lot of different things, like LARP, SCA combat, historical reenactment, medieval markets, cosplay, theater and movies.
This helmet, like all Armor Arena products, is made with professional craftsmanship, high-quality materials and a focus on historical accuracy. This means that you can be sure you're getting a high-quality product at the lowest price. \n
