The Viking Gjermundbu Helmet – Version II is a historically accurate copy of the only Viking Age helmet that has been found and confirmed. This helmet was found in a warrior’s grave in Gjermundbu, Norway and dates back to the 10th century. It is a rare and reliable piece of evidence of how Viking warriors really protected their heads in battle.

The spangenhelm construction method was used to make the original helmet. This method uses several iron plates that are riveted together to make a strong, rounded dome. It has a reinforced brow band and a unique face guard that looks like glasses. These protect the eyes and nose while still letting in light and air. This useful design is based on what Norse warriors really needed in battle, not on later medieval decoration.

Armor Arena’s Version II has historically accurate proportions and lets you customize it in modern ways. Customers can choose between 14, 16, 18 and 20 gauge mild steel for the helmet or 18 gauge stainless steel if they want something that won’t rust and doesn’t need much care. There are two types of finishes available: a dull (satin) finish that looks like it came from a real battlefield and a mirror polish finish that is good for ceremonies, collectors and movie productions.
