The cabasset helmet with faceplate was a type of helmet worn by infantry and light cavalry soldiers in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries. The word cabasset may come from the Spanish word cabeza or an Italian dialect word for "pear". The helmet was popular in 16th-century England and was used during the Civil War. The helmet was made of two overlapping pieces of iron that were riveted and hammered together. The helmet had a narrow brim with a row of holes for a leather band. The helmet had a stalk-like projection that resembled a pear.
