This Viking Splint greaves is the version 2 of the Splint greaves. Viking Leather greaves reinforced with Steel Strips is suitable for the Viking Age and Slavic re-enactment. Viking Leather greaves can be used for Sword fighting in all medieval and historical fairs. Untreated steel is used and may have rust. Use oil to protect steel from rust. Splint greaves were a type of limb armor that were used in Europe and Sweden before the Viking Age. They were made of metal splints attached to a fabric backing. The earliest splint armor was found in a Scythian grave from the 4th century BC. In Sweden, examples of splint armor were found in the Vendel and Valsgärde burial mounds, dating to 635-650. In the 14th century, splint armor was used as part of transitional armor. In the Valsgärde ship burial, a set of splint armors were found with a Vendel Era Germanic warrior.
Splint armor is made of narrow metal strips that are arranged longitudinally and pierced for riveting or sewing to the foundation.
