Italian Kettle Hat, Circa 1460:

Chapel de Fer, War Hat, Eisenhut or Capello di Ferro (Italian term)

The Italian Kettle Hat, which was made around 1460, is one of the most well-known and popular helmets in medieval Europe. In Italy, it’s called “Capello di Ferro,” and in other places, it’s called the “Chapel de Fer” or “War Hat.” For hundreds of years, this helmet worked very well for foot soldiers, archers, crossbowmen and town guards.

The kettle hat’s simple but brilliant design made it very popular with medieval foot soldiers. Its wide brim that sloped down kept swords and arrows from hitting it very well. The kettle hat protected soldiers’ heads completely while still letting them see and hear clearly on the battlefield. Italian armorers in the 15th century improved on this classic design by making it more elegant and well-crafted.

Armor Arena is proud to offer this historically accurate replica, which was made with care for period details and built to last. You can get the helmet in 14, 16, 18 and 20 gauge mild steel, or 18 gauge stainless steel. This lets you find the best balance between authenticity, durability and weight. You can choose between a Dull Finish or a Mirror Finish for each piece. Both show off great craftsmanship at the lowest price in the business.

Comfort and usefulness are always taken into account. Each kettle hat has foam padding on the inside, a leather chin strap with a strong steel buckle to keep it in place and it stays in place during combat training, live-action role-play or a play.

This helmet is a classic piece of medieval armour that is great for LARP battles, SCA events, cosplay, medieval re-enactments and film and theatre productions that want to look and feel like they are from the time period.

Armor Arena’s skilled armorers take pride in offering museum-inspired quality at unmatched prices, combining handcrafted excellence with reliable customer satisfaction worldwide.
