Leather Gloves with Metal Fingers – Authentic & Battle-Ready
Leather gloves with metal finger protection include gauntlets and gloves reinforced with metal plates or chainmail. Metal finger gloves were used for protection in battle and as a symbol of status. Gauntlets were a key part of a soldier’s defense in the Middle Ages. They were made of overlapping plates of steel and could be fingered or fingerless. Fingerless gauntlets allowed fingers to share heat but limited movement. Fingered gauntlets allowed full use of the fingers but were less comfortable in cold weather. Demi-gauntlets were lighter and more dexterous than full gauntlets but offered less protection to the fingers. Roman soldiers wore gloves reinforced with metal plates or chainmail to protect their hands in battle. Medieval knights also wore metal and metal mesh gloves. Leather gloves were also worn by horsemen, blacksmiths, butchers and farmers. Kings and queens often wore gloves decorated with jewels. Leather gloves became a fashion accessory over time.
